“All the sections were of high value, particularly the bullet point indicators and the video clips. Also thought that the process of putting in a Record of Concern were well explained and helped understand what to do and how to go about it in regard to the information needed. Also like the clear outline of our obligation to protect children as being paramount.”
eLearning – whole organisational use
“ Our community palliative care team have found the eLearning module easy to access, navigate and complete. The information has helped increase the staff’s knowledge and awareness to assist us to help protect the safety and promote wellbeing of children and young people. The training will sit alongside our organisational Oranga Tamariki policy. The team at safeguarding children have been approachable and responsive to our needs. “
This is a great course. Everybody in NZ should be made to do it! It’s so important!
What an amazing presentation… not just the way it was delivered and the interactive components… but also the incredible amount of knowledge that Willow exerts. The session could have easily been longer as there was so much to learn and discuss. Awesome initiative. I really hope you can get the govt to see how important this initiative is and truly how beneficial it is. Before I attended the session I lacked confidence and had limited awareness on the topic or the seriousness or even how important we… as both health professionals and the public… play an important role in advocating and observing and speaking up for our children!! This is so damn important. We need to make a change. And it all starts with us! In order for us to advocate we must be aware and well-trained! Awesome job Willow! I might come work for you one day!!!

Further to our conversation this morning, I feel compelled to let you know how much I appreciate the hard work that you have clearly put into developing the Safeguarding Children eLearning facility on your website.
As the Professional Practice Leader of Northern Auckland Kindergarten Association, I am responsible for ensuring that our teachers receive the best possible professional development that we can source and I am very excited to have found this option to support them in this most difficult subject.
The content of the course is extremely comprehensive and well designed and I am confident that my teachers will find that the knowledge gained will give them the confidence to respond effectively, should they find themselves in the unfortunate position of dealing with a child protection situation.
I have had some wonderful feedback from the teachers working through the course. Everyone is impressed with the content and the way it is delivered.
Ngā mihi nui/kind regards
I have had the pleasure of working with Safeguarding Children Initiative for the last 7 months around safeguarding children in sport. In New Zealand we have the second most physically active kids in the world and the majority of our kiwi kids play sport. We identified a lack of knowledge in our sporting workforce in this area and started working with Willow and Louise to deliver some formal training for our people who deliver junior sport.
They have been easy to deal with and tailored their presentation to our needs and delivered exactly the topics we requested. The workshops delivered have been full of useful knowledge around the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and what it means for our sports clubs and school sport teams. It also covered signs and symptoms to look out for as a coach / teacher, what to do with that information and also how to write a child protection policy for our sport administrators.
Willow delivered a Sport Manawatu staff training around our role as a regional sports trust and how to encourage child protection amongst our sport organisations. The knowledge of both Louise and Willow is outstanding. You can feel the passion as they deliver and they have comprehensive knowledge of NZ legislation and give practical advice around keeping your organisation a safe place for children.
In our region Safeguarding Children Initiative have delivered to 94 individuals across 46 organisations who work with young people in sport. We really appreciate the work and time they have put into our organisation so far and ensuring the costs are accessible for another not-for-profit organisation. I look forward to continuing working with them in the future!
Working with Safeguarding Children Initiative enabled us to navigate the complexities of the Vulnerable Children Act in a way that was practical, effective and easily incorporated into our existing systems. Their expert knowledge and straightforward delivery style made a sometimes difficult topic more palatable. We would recommend any organisation working with children to take advantage of Safeguarding Children Initiative.
The Nelson Bays RTLB Service contracted to work with Safeguarding Children early in 2017. All RTLB underwent training to upskill them in relevant aspects of child protection. The trainer, Louise, provided also an additional level of cluster development with support to align and develop cluster procedures & policies with all current legislation and changes in associated Ministries and laws. This training and support was of exceptional quality with a highly skilled practitioner.
The outcomes verify the value of this work this in full. I personally highly recommend the Safeguarding Training and support to all working/engaging with young people in any way. In fact, it is essential for everyone given the societies we all live in.
Having most of the committee attending the workshop has given us a shared understanding and focus in this area. We have undertaken a work programme to strengthen our practice and policies around child protection which has included a club wide memo and distribution of our policies, appointment of a child protection officer and we are in the process of police vetting coaches. Having a group of us upskilling at the same time has supported us to give clear and consistent messages in this area.
It has created more awareness about what we as an organisation can do to help prevent, identify and help in situations where a child needs protection. As result of the workshop we are in the middle of writing a Child Protection Policy as we haven’t had one in the past. The course has educated us on what abuse is, what it can look like and what we can do to prevent/minimise it from happening within our organisation. We aim to give our volunteers the confidence to do something and let them know who to call.
The training was absolutely fantastic! Honestly brilliant, I could not recommend it enough.
Thank you for making this invaluable training available – I think it is one of the most valuable training that our service has taken part in – need more – ngā mihi.
It was an awesome workshop and very informative. Thank you.
The programme was very well presented, held my interest. Was glad I attended.
THANK YOU! The training was exactly what I needed to be able to ensure our company is protecting children. It has truly inspired me and I would recommend it tenfold.
Very valuable and well facilitated.
