An absolute honour for our CEO Willow Duffy to be invited to the Government launch of the second Te Aorerekura Action Plan in Auckland. It was great to catch up with old friends of Safeguarding Children, including our new Police Commissioner, Richard Chamber who supported our work at the start of our journey in sunny Nelson. What a great opportunity to hear the passion of our key Ministers driving this plan.
This is the next phase in work to give effect to the National Strategy to Eliminate Family Violence and Sexual Violence. Our hope is to always see a strong focus on children. It’s there, but we want more than words. We want to see this promise play out in the outcomes achieved.
This second Action Plan does take a different approach to the first plan and is centred around working together, the very thing Safeguarding Children New Zealand champions. There is a lot to do, and this Action Plan focuses on where the greatest difference can be made. There are 7 focus areas:
✅ investing and commissioning well
✅ keeping people safe through effective responses in the regions
✅ stopping violence by holding people to account and supporting them to change their behaviour
✅ protecting children and young people
✅ strengthening workforces
✅ taking action on sexual violence, and
✅ preventing violence.
