Kelvin Bush, a registered child sex offender, is set to be sentenced in March on three charges of possessing objectionable material. Bush is noted for targeting solo parents to gain access to children. Safeguarding Children senior consultant Ruth Browning says this is typical behaviour for child sex offenders. “It is often the case that a parent with vulnerabilities is targeted by the perpetrator as there are needs that the perpetrator can meet creating more likelihood the parent will respond to their approach. So parents with vulnerabilities such as solo parent – there are more demands on a solo parent’s time, energy and resources so if a perpetrator approaches with offers of time, resources and energy for the child, it can be an attractive proposal, it meets a need.” This article published by the Waikato Times details the offending but also provides some great advice on keeping kids safe:
